Jan M. Bianchi

About the Author

Jan Bianchi was born and raised in the Napa Valley. She discovered her talent for writing poetry and prose when she was in her early twenties. In those early years, she had no clear direction, but then a friend showed some of Jan’s work to Jessamyn West, one of America’s most distinguished writers. West was impressed by Jan’s work and sent her a handwritten note of praise and encouragement. Over the years, that note has stood as an inspiring torch, guiding Jan along her writing path.

In September of 2001— a period of terrible trauma for all of us — Jan was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was a shock, of course, but through her writing Jan was able to turn the experience into a deep spiritual awakening – and a bold new direction for her poetry. With precision and feeling, she chronicled her daily journey with the disease, and the result is a series of searing, uplifting poems, exploring the darkness of cancer and ultimately celebrating the power of faith and the triumphant blessings of the soul.

As Jan explains, “As a writer, I write from an intuitive vein. My task is to uplift and to transform moments of uncertainty and despair into moments of empowerment and hope. If I can do that, then my words will have done the greatest thing any writer can hope for: promote conscious change.”
